Hypha vs Mycro
Hypha and Mycro both help mushroom growers replace the notebook and the spreadsheet. Hypha is a native app with an account and a sensor on the way. Mycro is a browser tool you can start using without an account.
Mycro details checked on October 19, 2026, on Mycro's own pages.
How do Hypha and Mycro compare?
Hypha and Mycro differ most in apps, accounts and how far each product is built out. The table puts the details side by side.
| Feature | Hypha | Mycro |
|---|---|---|
| Platforms | iOS and Android apps, plus the web app. | Web only, with nothing to install. You can add it to a phone's home screen; there is no App Store or Google Play app. |
| Account | A free account; no credit card. | The free Grow Log needs no account and saves in your browser. |
| Free plan | Free forever: 1 monitored zone, 25 active blocks, 7 days of environmental data, grow tracking and a photo journal. Monitored zones and environmental data need Hypha Aeris (closed beta, not for sale yet); grow tracking works without it. | The free Grow Log has unlimited batches, saved in your browser. |
| Paid plans | Pro is $12 a month and Farm $25 a month plus $15 per extra user (USD). Every new account starts with a 60-day Pro trial, no card needed. | Grower about $12 and Farm about $24 a month are targets, and those plans aren't open yet. A $99 one-time Founding Grower spot is open, limited to 10. |
| Sensors | Its own sensor, Hypha Aeris (CO₂, temperature, humidity), isn't for sale yet; reservations are planned for 2027. The app works without it. | No sensor support is mentioned. |
| Culture lineage | A family tree linking each culture, spawn bag and block to its parent. | Each culture takes a tracking code from its parent: source, dish, liquid culture, grain spawn. |
| Contamination | Tag blocks as suspect or contaminated, and see each strain's contamination rate. | Logs contamination by step, strain and substrate. |
| Harvests | Wet and dry weight for every flush, and a Grow Summary when a block finishes. | Biological efficiency per strain and substrate, flush by flush. |
| Costs | Inventory and recipes on every plan; cost per fresh pound on Pro and Farm. | Cost per block and per pound. |
| Teams | The Farm plan adds a shared farm with Manager, Grower and Viewer roles. | Multi-user is part of the Farm plan, which isn't open yet. |
| Data export | Export my data, in Profile & settings: a .zip of CSV files, with photos optional. | CSV and JSON. |
| Built for | Advanced hobbyists running many strains, and microfarms ready to scale. | Small commercial gourmet and functional mushroom farms. |
| Company | Demeter Mycolabs LLC, Tijeras, New Mexico. | Built by Sascha Heyer; contact hello@usemycro.com. |
Free forever · 60 days of Pro included · No credit card · iOS, Android & web
When is Mycro the better fit?
Mycro is likely the better choice in these cases:
- You want to start logging today without making an account.
- You mostly work from one browser, and saving the log there suits you.
- You want biological efficiency worked out for you, per strain and substrate.
When is Hypha the better fit?
Hypha is likely the better choice in these cases:
- You want native iOS and Android apps, with your grows synced to your account on every device.
- You run a farm with other people and want shared roles today, on the Farm plan.
- You want a photo journal and a family tree for every block, with Hypha's own sensor on the way.
What happens to my grow data in Hypha?
Hypha shows your grows only to you and to teammates on a shared farm, unless you or a teammate who can edit the grow turns on its public link. Demeter Mycolabs doesn't sell your data, and doesn't share your identifiable data with other companies for their own advertising or model training. Hypha is cloud-based, so Demeter Mycolabs can technically access backend data for things like debugging, support and improving the platform. You can download your records as CSV files at any time, from Profile & settings → Privacy & data → Export my data. The privacy policy and data processing terms spell out the rest.
Do I have to subscribe to use Hypha?
No. Hypha's Free plan is free forever and needs no credit card. Pro and Farm are optional paid plans. If you upgrade, you can cancel anytime: you drop back to Free, and your grow data stays. Paid plans are billed through Stripe, from your Hypha account on the web. See Hypha pricing for the limits on each plan.
